Dear me, let us be elegant or die!

Yes, it is time for my annual reading of Little Women. Thanksgiving night I always read the first chapter. This is the third year in a row to do this. I've read it more than that just not at a specific time of the year. I always write the date finished in the front of the book so that I can look back and see how many years I have read it.

It's been very fun! I love looking forward to reading it every year. It's always different because each year I'm coming from a slightly different perspective. Some years I identify with Jo most, sometimes Meg, even Beth one time. Not sure if I've ever identified with Amy but who knows? Maybe one year I will? Maybe I'll marry someone with all older siblings and I'll be the baby of the family.

Hoping you are enjoying to the fullest every moment of this fast fading year!

Fondly,
Jane

I used to be the same way with the book An Old Fashioned Girl. Every winter I got in the mood to read it. I've read it so many times! But I haven't read it in a few years now...hmmm, maybe I should pull it out again. After I finish North and South of course. ;)

Ahhh!!! Colin Firth is winning the poll! I'm half tempted to vote twice. I think some of you did. ;(
heehee jk But really, it's Matthew all the way...:D
Well, I like the first half of this book...but I shant say any more as it would be quite a shame for Jane and I to have one of our destined couples fights. ;)
Love you girlies xxx

What a great tradition! And that's so neat that you can read it time and time again and identify with the different characters different years! I'm usually not much of a re-reader, because I no longer have the motivation of finding out what happend next or making sure everything turns out alright, but I am compelled to reread some books, now that you've but that perspecive on it. And I also usually like my books looking brand new (can't break that binding! lol) but I think I should make an exception for your lovely idea of writing down the date I finish so I can look back upon that. Thanks for the insight. ;D

You're welcome Klazane!! So glad you like the idea. You could also just get a cheap copy of a book from a used book store so you can break the binding without the guilt. Lol! I kinda like it when my books start looking old and used. I think they look well loved. :) They kind of take on their own personality. I DON'T like it however, when the pages start falling out. :(
Thanks so much for the comment! I love your Shpiffy Squirrel by the way! Aa! Adorable!

Marge, yes! Everyone should read that book. Girls and boys too. :)

What a beautiful tradition. I have 2 girls and now want to pass this down to them. I know Klazane is up for it, but my 7 year old is a wiggleworm even with books that she loves, like Narnia Chronicles.

Thank you!

Yes! it is a lovely tradition. I love it. :) As for your wiggle worm, she may find it a bit boring. I think I first read it when I was maybe 13 and I think it was the perfect age. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Ah, Narnia. Love those books!! My older sister read them to us when we were quite young and we'd clamor for "just one more chapter!". One thing that helps little ones to pay attention it to have them draw pictures of the characters while they listen to you reading. We used to do that and I remember those parts of the books vividly because I was drawing it while I was hearing it. :) And for the really active kids you could have them silently act out the story while you read. Just a thought! :)

Thanks for commenting Jeannette!
